- Safeguarding training requirements/ Gofynion hyfforddiant diogelu
PACEY Cymru and Children in Wales have worked in partnership to develop a package of safeguarding training in Wales for the sector.
Safeguarding training requirements
Guidance on the safeguarding training requirements for different roles within childcare, early years and play settings can be found in Annex C of the National Minimum Standards for regulated childcare. We are aware that there is some confusion around the changes, so we have developed some Frequently Asked Questions to support you in understanding and meeting these requirements.
Why have the safeguarding training requirements changed?
In November 2022 the National safeguarding training, learning and development standards were published, setting out for the first time in Wales, a nationally consistent approach to safeguarding training. The standards aim to make sure everyone in Wales gets consistent and good quality safeguarding learning and development. The updated National Minimum Standards for regulated childcare recognises the importance of these standards, and ensures that those working in registered childcare settings access training that meets these.
Which safeguarding training course should I complete?
This will depend on your role:
- Those who don’t work directly with children such as cooks, cleaners and administration roles would only need to complete Group A training.
- Individuals that work with children in a supervised role such as childminding assistants, nursery assistants would initially need to complete Group A and Group B training. Renewal of their training would only be at Group B.
- Those with ultimate safeguarding responsibility such as registered childminders, managers, leaders, and the Designated Safeguarding Person should initially complete Group A, B and C training.
Further information about the training for each of the groups and renewal requirements is provided within the safeguarding training courses information below.
How do I access safeguarding training?
Group A training is freely accessible as an online course from Social Care Wales, there is a link to access this in the Group A training information below.
For Group B and C training, the first step is to check with your local authority for details of any local courses, as these are often available at a subsidised rate. PACEY Cymru and Children in Wales have worked in partnership to develop a package of Group B and Group C safeguarding training in Wales for the sector.
It is important to use a reputable training provider and that you ensure the training you access is relevant for Wales and meets the National safeguarding training, learning and development standards.
What are the timescales for completing safeguarding training?
There is a lead in-time until the end of November 2024 to meet the new training requirements. As these standards are raising the training expectations, it may take time for this training to be available to you. Please keep an eye out for information from your local authority, and PACEY Cymru as further details as training becomes available.
In the meantime, it is important for you to continue to keep your safeguarding training up to date and renewed at least every three years. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your local authority or PACEY Cymru to discuss.

Mae PACEY Cymru a Plant yng Nghymru wedi gweithio mewn partneriaeth I ddatblygu pecyn hyfforddiant diogelu ar gyfer y sector.
Gofynion hyfforddiant diogelu
Ceir canllawiau ar y gofynion hyfforddiant diogelu ar gyfer gwahanol rolau o fewn lleoliadau gofal plant, blynyddoedd cynnar a chwarae yn Atodiad C y Safonau Gofynnol Cenedlaethol ar gyfer gofal plant rheoledig. Rydym yn ymwybodol bod rhywfaint o ddryswch ynghylch y newidiadau felly rydym wedi datblygu rhai Cwestiynau Cyffredin i’ch helpu i ddeall a bodloni’r gofynion hyn.
Pam fod y gofynion hyfforddiant diogelu wedi newid?
Ym mis Tachwedd 2022, cyhoeddwyd y Safonau hyfforddi, dysgu a datblygu diogelu cenedlaethol, sy’n nodi am y tro cyntaf yng Nghymru, ymagwedd genedlaethol gyson at hyfforddiant diogelu. Nod y safonau yw sicrhau bod pawb yng Nghymru yn manteisio ar ddysgu a datblygu diogelu cyson ac o ansawdd da. Mae’r Safonau Gofynnol Cenedlaethol wedi’u diweddaru ar gyfer gofal plant rheoledig yn cydnabod pwysigrwydd y safonau hyn, ac yn sicrhau bod y rhai sy’n gweithio mewn lleoliadau gofal plant cofrestredig yn cael hyfforddiant sy’n bodloni’r rhain.
Pa gwrs hyfforddiant diogelu ddylwn i ei gwblhau?
Bydd hyn yn dibynnu ar eich rôl:
- Byddai angen i’r rhai nad ydynt yn gweithio’n uniongyrchol gyda phlant, megis cogyddion, glanhawyr a rolau gweinyddol, gwblhau hyfforddiant Grŵp A yn unig.
- Byddai angen i unigolion sy’n gweithio gyda phlant mewn rôl dan oruchwyliaeth, megis cynorthwywyr gwarchod plant a chynorthwywyr meithrin, gwblhau hyfforddiant Grŵp A a Grŵp B i ddechrau. Dim ond yng Ngrŵp B y byddai eu hyfforddiant yn cael ei adnewyddu.
- Dylai’r rhai sydd â chyfrifoldeb terfynol am ddiogelu, megis gwarchodwyr plant cofrestredig, rheolwyr, arweinwyr, a’r Person Diogelu Dynodedig, gwblhau hyfforddiant Grŵp A, B a C i ddechrau.
Darperir rhagor o wybodaeth am yr hyfforddiant ar gyfer pob un o’r grwpiau a’r gofynion adnewyddu yn y wybodaeth am gyrsiau hyfforddiant diogelu isod.
Sut mae cael mynediad at hyfforddiant diogelu?
Mae hyfforddiant Grŵp A ar gael am ddim fel cwrs ar-lein gan Gofal Cymdeithasol Cymru; mae dolen i gael mynediad ato yn y wybodaeth hyfforddiant Grŵp A isod.
Ar gyfer hyfforddiant Grŵp B a C, y cam cyntaf yw gwirio gyda’ch awdurdod lleol am fanylion unrhyw gyrsiau lleol, gan fod y rhain ar gael yn aml am bris gostyngol. Mae PACEY Cymru a Plant yng Nghymru wedi gweithio mewn partneriaeth I ddatblygu pecyn hyfforddiant diogelu Grŵp B a Grŵp C ar gyfer y sector.
Mae’n bwysig defnyddio darparwr hyfforddiant ag enw da a’ch bod yn sicrhau bod yr hyfforddiant a gewch yn berthnasol i Gymru ac yn bodloni’r safonau hyfforddi, dysgu a datblygu diogelu cenedlaethol.
Beth yw’r amserlenni ar gyfer cwblhau hyfforddiant diogelu?
Mae amser arweiniol tan ddiwedd mis Tachwedd 2024 i fodloni’r gofynion hyfforddi newydd. Gan fod y safonau hyn yn codi’r disgwyliadau hyfforddi, efallai y bydd yn cymryd amser i’r hyfforddiant hwn fod ar gael i chi. Cadwch lygad am wybodaeth gan eich awdurdod lleol, a gan PACEY Cymru, wrth i hyfforddiant ddod ar gael.
Yn y cyfamser, mae’n bwysig i chi barhau i gadw’ch hyfforddiant diogelu yn gyfredol a’i adnewyddu o leiaf bob tair blynedd. Os oes gennych unrhyw gwestiynau neu bryderon cysylltwch â’ch awdurdod lleol neu PACEY Cymru i drafod.
