- Safeguarding training in Wales
PACEY Cymru and Children in Wales have worked in partnership to develop a package of training for the sector in line with the revised standards that meets the needs of all those working in childcare and early years settings. This bilingual training will be delivered through a blended approach of self-directed online learning and trainer led learning.
Buyers beware!
- Some courses will be built specific to England even if they are marketed in Wales, they will have irrelevant and misleading links to policy and practice.
- Some training providers have robust internal quality processes to support development and delivery and look to review these periodically however this doesn’t always happen.
- If a price appears too good to be true, then it probably is, and you should proceed with caution.
- Take advantage of funding from your local authority if available to reduce the costs you have to pay.
- There can be a misconception that courses with the same, or similar titles, are very much the same, but the quality can vary immensely.
- Positive online reviews are not always a good indicator of quality training and are open to misuse.
When looking to purchase or access safeguarding training in Wales you need to carefully consider if the training meets the requirements in Annex C of the revised NMS. Specifically that:
- The course is specific to Wales
- It is at the required level for your role (see Annex C of the NMS for further detail)
- It is being delivered in an appropriate way to meet the NMS requirements (online for Group A training and blended or face-to-face for group B and C training)
- The duration of the course meets the NMS requirements
Why choose the training provided by PACEY Cymru and Children in Wales?
- Meets the revised requirements of the NMS
- High quality training developed in partnership to meet the specific needs of the childcare and play workforce in Wales
- Blended delivery approach with a balance of self-directed e-learning and tutor-led delivery providing you with the flexibility to undertake the training around your busy working lives.
- Trainers are approved and have relevant knowledge and expertise to support your learning journey
Identifying the training you need
The safeguarding training required will depend upon your role, we have guidance and FAQs to help you identify which level of training applies to you, see safeguarding requirements in Wales.
Once you have established which training you need, check with your local authority for details of any local courses, as these are often available at a subsidised rate.
How is our training delivered?
The training is delivered in two parts as blended learning, e-learning with PACEY Cymru and virtual tutor-led training with Children in Wales. You must complete the e-learning, before you attend the tutor-led training as you will be asked to refer to your workbook and notes from the e-learning during the tutor-led training.
A certificate will be issued upon completion of both parts of the training.
As the training is completed online you will need access to a computer, and some computer skills, to complete the course. We would recommend access to a PC or laptop to complete the training as you will be required to download, save, and complete a workbook.
Upcoming tutor-led training dates are below, be sure to allow sufficient time to complete the e-learning part of the course in the two weeks before your tutor-led training when booking:
