Further increase to Childcare Offer rate for Wales / Cynnydd pellach yng nghyfradd y Cynnig Gofal Plant Cymru

In December 2024 in our news story Changes to the Childcare Offer rate for Wales we made you aware of the outcome of the rate review for the Childcare Offer for Wales and that from 7 April 2025 the hourly rate paid to childcare providers who deliver the Childcare offer for Wales would increase by 20% from £5.00 to £6.00 effective from 7 April 2025.

This extra funding was agreed as part of the Welsh Government draft budget.

Today the Government has published its Final Budget which sets out detailed spending plans for 2025 to 2026 and confirmed a further change to the hourly rate.

From April 2025, the hourly rate paid to childcare providers who deliver the Childcare Offer for Wales will be £6.40 per hour.

There has been no change to the 20% uplift (already announced) to permissible food charges which childcare providers may charge parents who access the Offer at their setting.

The Welsh Government will also provide extra funding to uplift the Nursery Education element of the Offer and to uplift the childcare element of Flying Start.
