Being a Nanny in Wales / Bod yn Nani yng Nghymru

Here you’ll find all the information you’ll need on the training requirements and registration processes to be in a nanny.

CIW Approval as a nanny

Being approved helps you demonstrate to parents your commitment to the care of their children to the highest possible standards. It also allows parents to receive financial assistance through a range of UK Government tax and benefits concessions such as Tax Credits, Universal Credit and Tax-Free Childcare, where they are eligible. That’s why we recommend that nannies in Wales join the Approval of Home Childcare Providers Scheme.

    Safeguarding practice

Those working as a nanny in Wales should also be aware of the Working Together to Safeguard People: Code of Safeguarding Practice for individuals, groups and organisations offering activities or services to children and adults in Wales. Though nannies are not registered in Wales in the same way as other childcare and play providers it is important for them to understand the importance of having safeguarding arrangements in place to make sure that nobody is put at risk of harm.

      Training

If you want to deliver your best as a nanny, then training is essential. Before joining PACEY, you’ll need to have taken introductory training in home-based childcare.

PACEY offers pre-registration training for home-based childcare in Wales, which includes Unit 326 Introduction to home-based childcare (IHC). It is PACEY’s recommended preparatory course for prospective and new nannies in Wales. For further information please contact the PACEY Cymru office at paceycymru@pacey.org.uk or 02920 351 407.

        PACEY also offers

Paediatric first-aid courses delivered by experienced tutors and suitable for home-based childcarers.

Safeguarding children training – free for practitioner plus members or discounted if you’re a practitioner member.
